How to Become CA after 12th Science?
To become a CA after 12th science, you have to clear the three levels of the CA course and complete the articleship training of 3 years.
We have outlined the steps a 12th science student needs to follow in order to become a CA:
Step 1. Register for the CA Foundation Exams and Clear It
The students who want to pursue the Chartered Accountancy course have to register for the entrance level i.e. CA Foundation after appearing in the 12th examination. However, they will become eligible to appear in the CA Foundation examination only after passing their 12th exams. Know the complete CA Foundation eligibility criteria here.
Institute doesn’t differentiate between commerce and science students. Terms and conditions for appearing in the examination are equal for both of them.
Usually, science students are unaware of the commerce subjects and consider the CA Course difficult to pursue. But actually, pursuing this course is not difficult for PCM students because they are good at solving practical sums and Chartered Accountants are well-known players of figures in the finance world. They are expected to analyze the financial ratios and review the financial statements.
CA Foundation Syllabus 2024:
The CA Foundation syllabus includes 4 subjects, these are:
- Principles and Practices of Accounting
- Mercantile Laws and General English
- Business Mathematics, Logical Reasoning, and Statistics
- Business Economics and Business and Commercial Knowledge
The challenge for the science students is to grab command over Accounting because this is the core subject of CA. You cannot proceed further until you don’t have in-depth knowledge of Accounting. To get an overview of paper 1, students should first check the CA Foundation exam pattern and the previous year’s question papers.
The next subject is Mercantile Law, this subject is equally new for the Science and Commerce students. This gives you a basic understanding of Company law and detailed knowledge of the Contract Act, Partnership Act, Sales of Goods Act, etc. This subject is blended with General English which you have gone through in your primary and secondary classes.
The next CA Foundation paper is of Business Mathematics, Logical Reasoning, and Statistics. The favourite subject for the Science Maths students but the scariest subject for the commerce students. 20 marks are covered by Logical reasoning and the remaining part of the paper is divided equally between Maths and Stats.
Thereafter, Business Economics and Business and Commercial Knowledge will be your fourth subject. This is true that Commerce students are already familiar with this subject. CA Foundation Passing Criteria for 12th Science Students
The CA Foundation course requires you to obtain 40% marks in individual subjects and 50% marks in aggregate of all the subjects. Therefore, you have to study each and every subject properly.
The first two papers are subjective and the next two are objective. The objective papers contain negative markings. For each wrong answer, ¼ mark will get deducted while for each correct answer you will be given one mark.
Once you have passed the entry-level i.e. CA Foundation, the journey in the next two levels will be the same for both the commerce and the non-commerce students. Since after clearing the Foundation level, the science students will have a basic knowledge of commerce. You have to go through the entire eight subjects of the CA Inter Syllabus as the Commerce students do.

Step 2. Pass the CA Intermediate Both Groups
There are two ways to register for the CA Intermediate course. The first one is through the Foundation route, after clearing the CA Foundation exams. The other one is through the Direct-entry route.
In the direct entry route, graduate students from any field can directly register for the CA Inter course, without giving the Foundation exams. For Science students, graduates and post-graduates have to at least 60% in their graduation exams.
The applicant must undergo four weeks of IT training in addition to the prerequisites. You need to complete the CA Inter study material in the 8 months. Now let us have a look at the course structure of the intermediate examination.
To pass the CA Intermediate groups, you must receive 40% in each topic and a 50% aggregate. You must clear both groups to move on to the final stage. The results of the CA Intermediate exam are made available two months after the exam.

Step 4. Clear Both Groups of CA Final Exams
The CA Final Course is the most challenging part of the Chartered Accountant course. The ICAI wants you to be educated on all of the course material.
The student must pass both groups of the Intermediate course to register for the CA Final exams. Eligible students can sign up for the CA Final on the ICAI website. Since the registration is valid for five years, there will be ten attempts. The CA Final exam’s format blends subjectivity and objectivity. Every paper carries 100 marks.
To pass the final exams, you must score 40% in each subject and a 50% average overall. Two months following the last paper, ICAI will release the CA Final result.
