The CA Course duration is 48 months. In these 48 months, students need to clear three levels – Foundation, Intermediate & Final and complete the articleship training. Class 12th students will take at least 5 years to complete the Chartered Accountancy course. They need to clear three exams and complete the articleship training of two years.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India has proposed a new scheme of education and training for CA. Under the CA new scheme 2024, the ICAI will reduce the duration of becoming a CA by 6 months.

Duration of CA Foundation Course
The duration of the CA Foundation course is 6 months.
Students who have cleared their 12th can register for the CA Foundation exams. After registration, they have to undergo a four-month study period to appear in the CA Foundation Exam. The CA Foundation Result for June 2024 will be declared in August.
CA Intermediate Course Duration
The duration to complete the CA Intermediate course is 10 months.
After registering for the CA Intermediate exams, a candidate has to undergo a study period of eight months to appear in the exams. ICAI releases the CA Intermediate result within 2 months of the last exam date.
ICITSS period
As your CA Intermediate exams are over, you can enrol for the ICITSS training. You must undergo 100 hours of Information technology and one week of an Orientation program to complete this training. Students can complete such training while waiting for the CA Intermediate result.
CA Articleship Training Period
The duration of the CA Articleship training is 2 years which is mandatory for each CA aspirant. In the span of these 2 years, students will get practical experience in the work of Chartered Accountants. After clearing single or both groups of CA Intermediate, CA Students become eligible to register for Articleship training once they clear either single or both groups of the CA Intermediate.
AICITSS period
AICITSS is an Advance Information Technology and Management and Communication Skills Program. Students can undergo this program while pursuing their last two years of Articleship Training.
Duration of CA Final Course
Students must clear both the CA Intermediate groups to register for the CA Final Course. One can appear in the CA Final Exam while completing the last six months of Articleship training. Therefore, to save time, students generally fill out their CA Final registration form during the training period.
Hence, to complete the CA Course in five years, you’ll need to crack all the levels on the first attempt. As each number of attempts increases, your six months in this journey.

Chartered Accountancy Course Duration After 10th
ICAI has allowed students to enrol for the CA Course after the 10th class. They can provisionally register for the course after clearing the 10th class. However, they can take their exams only after they have cleared their 12th class.
A class 10th student will take 7 years to complete the Chartered Accountancy course. The journey is the same as doing CA after the 12th, just 2 years are added to the timeline for the 11th and 12th classes.
CA Course Duration After Graduation Through Direct Entry Scheme
The CA Course duration after graduation is 4.5 years. Graduates can directly apply for the CA Intermediate Course. They don’t have to pass the CA Foundation exams.
After CA Inter registration, they have to complete the 1-month ICITSS training and undergo the article ship training for at least 9 months. After clearing the CA Inter both groups, they need to complete the remaining training and clear the CA Final exams.

Duration of CA After Intermediate Level of ICSI/ICWA
Students who have cleared the Intermediate Level of ICSI or ICWA can directly register for the CA Intermediate course without appearing in the CA Foundation exam. They have to undergo a study period of eight months after registration to appear in the CA Intermediate Examination. After that, all the procedures for such Direct Entry Route students will be the same as those for normal route students.
Hence, the duration of the Chartered Accountancy Course after clearing Intermediate levels of ICSI or ICWA can be estimated as 4.5 years.
How many years to Complete the CA Course After Post-Graduation?
The post-graduate students who have completed their MBA or other degrees will take a minimum of 4.5 years to complete the CA Course. After completing your post-graduation degree, you can directly enrol for the CA Intermediate Course.
Duration of CA Course if You Can’t Clear Exams on the First Attempt
In our teaching experience of more than 20 years, we have seen that many students make more than 1 attempt to crack the exams. This is especially true in the CA Intermediate and Final examinations.
So, if this is the case with you, then the period will be increased by 6 months with each extra attempt. Students might also take 7-8 years to complete the CA course.
